Your information and choices

Introduction
This Might Matter ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and web service.
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access the application.
Information we collect
We may collect information about you in a variety of ways. The information we may collect via the Application includes:
Personal data
- Email address and authentication information
- Name and profile information
- Voice recordings and transcripts
- Text thoughts and content
- Usage data and preferences
Automatically collected information
- Device information and unique identifiers
- Log data and usage analytics
- Crash reports and performance data
Crash reports: when the app runs into an error, it sends us what broke and where. That is the type of error, the place in our code, the screen it happened on, the app version, and your device platform and system version. Before a report leaves your device, anything that could be something you wrote, an email address, or an account identifier is removed, and our servers check again. Crashes in the app's native code are recorded by Google Firebase Crashlytics, which also notes your device model and a random identifier for this installation. Reports stay with Google in our own project, are kept for no more than 90 days, and are never used for advertising. You can turn them off in Settings, under Data and privacy.
Usage statistics: which screens you open, whether a capture was started, saved, or abandoned, when the Premium screen opens, and how long things take, such as starting the app or waiting for a transcript. Times are rounded and grouped into ranges. Statistics are tied to a random identifier for this installation, not to your account, and never include what you write or say. They are kept for about 13 months. If your device is set to a European time zone or region, they are off unless you turn them on; elsewhere they are on. You can change this in Settings, under Data and privacy.
Ratings of Ask answers: when you mark an answer Helpful or Not quite, we keep the rating and the reason you pick, without your account. If you also choose to include the question and answer, we keep a copy of that one exchange in your account so we can look into it. It is deleted when you delete the conversation or your data, and it is part of your data export.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain our service
- Process and transcribe voice recordings
- Analyze content to create summaries and connections
- Improve our AI algorithms and service quality
- Provide customer support and respond to inquiries
- Send important updates and notifications
- Ensure security and prevent fraud
Information sharing and disclosure
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to third parties except in the following circumstances:
- With your explicit consent
- With AI apps you choose to connect
- To comply with legal obligations
- To protect our rights and prevent fraud
- With service providers who assist in our operations
- In connection with a business transfer or merger
Connected AI apps
You can connect AI apps such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor to This Might Matter. An app you approve can read and search your thoughts, streams, connections, patterns, and reflections, and can capture, edit, and delete thoughts for you. What it receives is then handled under that app's own privacy policy.
We share data only with apps you approve, and only from your account. We keep a record of which apps you connected and when they last used your account. You can disconnect an app at any time in Settings, under Connected AI apps, and its access stops right away. Deleting your account disconnects every app.
Talk-throughs with Lumi
When you talk something through with Lumi, your voice is sent as you speak to Google's Gemini service, which listens and replies. So Lumi can talk about what you've been thinking, Gemini also receives a short summary of your recent thoughts and streams. Google processes this for us under its paid API terms, which don't allow it to be used to train Google's models.
We keep the recording and the written conversation as a talk-through in your account, and save the ideas you voiced as thoughts. You can delete a talk-through, its recording, or any of those thoughts at any time, and deleting your data or your account deletes them all. Talk-throughs are included when you export your data.
Cookies and similar technologies
Our website uses a small number of cookies and similar browser storage, in three groups:
- Necessary: keep you signed in, protect your account (Google reCAPTCHA), and run checkout (RevenueCat and Stripe). These are always on.
- Analytics: Google Analytics measures visits and which pages help. Where the law requires consent, these stay off until you agree.
- Advertising: Google Ads measures and tailors our ads. Where the law requires consent, these stay off until you agree. We treat a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser as an opt-out of advertising.
Your thoughts, recordings, and streams are never used for advertising.
You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings in the website footer or in Settings, under Data and privacy. Your choice is saved in your browser for 12 months, and then we ask again.
The iOS and Android apps do not use analytics or advertising cookies.

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest using industry-standard encryption protocols.

We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to provide our services and fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time.
